Cryo1one & Premier Concierge host Alzheimer’s FREEZE party

Last week, Cryo1one Dallas sponsored an Alzheimer’s fundraiser with Misty Keown of Premier Concierge. The event raised more than $2000 to help find a cure and better treatment for Alzheimer’s disease! This past February, one of Misty’s best friends, Dana passed away at age 58 due to early-onset Alzheimer’s. Misty now works hard to find fun ways to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s and to find partners willing to join the fight.

Premier Concierge Supports Alzheimer’s Fundraising

AWARE (Alzheimer’s Women’s Association for Research and Education) proudly welcomed friends and supporters to a luncheon on May 10th at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas.  The keynote speaker was Dayna Steele, author of  Surviving Alzheimer’s with Friends, Facebook and a Really Big Glass of Wine.

Steele stressed the importance of telling “your story” about Alzheimer’s disease in order to help support the families touched by this horrible disease.  I highly recommend her book to help give you support and guidance during your journey with Alzheimer’s.

BvB Dallas 2017 Benefactors’ Brunch

Premier concierge supports BvB DallasBefore my best friend, Dana Drago, passed away in February 2017 due to early-onset Alzheimer’s, I promised her I would do my part to help find a cure for this horrible disease. As a part of my efforts, Premier Concierge was a sponsor at the BvB Dallas 2017 Benefactors’ Brunch on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at the Tower Club in Dallas.

Thank you to BvB Dallas for honoring and celebrating their 2017 Beneficiaries with us: UT Southwestern Fellowship, Center for Brain Health, Center for Vital Longevity and Baylor AT&T Medical Center. It gave me hope hearing their research progress and knowing we are getting closer to finding a cure!

Raising Money and Awareness for Alzheimer’s

Dee Holly and Misty Keown

Dee Holley & Misty Keown at the AWARE 2017 Gala

A wonderful time was had by all at the AWARE Gala on Saturday evening April 8, 2017. Founded in 1989 by a small group of passionate and civic-minded Dallas women, AWARE has raised and donated over $12 million so far in the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease. These dedicated women created A.W.A.R.E. (Alzheimer’s Women’s Association for Resources and Education). Today, men and women of all ages have joined the fight.

As an example of the fundraising options, a silent auction was held with several luxury items.  Misty won a Portrait Setting with Isabelle Guillen and a “party clutch” from LVcr8.

AWARE is proud to support nonprofit organizations that share their mission and are also dedicated to fighting Alzheimer’s disease. Together we will make a difference.

Join or donate to AWARE now. Join the fight. Become part of the solution.

Proper food care could save you over $2000 per year!

Living in a nation of abundant food can create situations of waste adding up to $2200 per year for the average American family. According to a National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) report, approximately two-thirds of Americans’ food waste occurs mainly because food isn’t used before it spoils. We overload our grocery shopping carts, use only portions for recipes, then don’t properly save the rest. The remaining one-third of food waste comes from cooking more than we need, then throwing food away as well as confusing “sell by” and “use by” dates and throwing food out.

A recent post on the Chase website listed 7 ways to reduce food waste and save money in the process.

  1. Create meal plans

If you don’t know what you’re cooking, how will you know what to buy? Save yourself money and extra trips to the grocery store by making a weekly meal plan to ensure you’re buying only what you’ll need and use.

Don’t forget leftovers; factor those in to make sure they don’t end up rotting in the back of your fridge. Take them to work for lunch, use them to make a different recipe, or freeze them for future meals.

  1. Freeze it

If you can’t eat food that will spoil soon, consider freezing it. Fruits and vegetables can be easily chopped and frozen.

Alon Popilskis, a business owner in Congers, New York, has some tips on what to do with frozen fruits or vegetables. “I use frozen fruits in smoothies, shakes or when making sorbet,” he says. “Frozen herbs in oil just get thrown right into the pan or pot for cooking. Frozen vegetables can also be used in smoothies or juices.”

  1. Conduct fridge check-ins

Every day or two, check to see whether anything is starting to go bad or get overripe.

“Utilize one bin in your fridge for new produce, and in the other keep older produce that you know you need to be using up,” Henry suggests.

Keep track of the things that routinely end up going bad as you might be buying too much of them.

  1. Understand expiration and sell-by dates

Yogurt doesn’t immediately go bad at midnight on the date printed on the cover. Nor does bread go moldy on its “sell-by” date. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), companies use these dates to guess at the freshness of the food, and they are not related to safety.

Companies generally tend to be conservative in their estimates, and the USDA suggests you check the food to see if it looks or smells “off” or sour.

  1. Store food properly

Did you know that onions shouldn’t be stored in the fridge, or that tomatoes last longer and are less likely to be mealy if you leave them on the counter?

When storing produce in the fridge, consider Popilskis’ approach: He stores things that will wilt—like spinach or kale in a drawer with high humidity. “Things that rot quickly go into a drawer with low humidity settings,” he says.

  1. Use everything

Do you throw away beet greens? Don’t! You can add them to salads, soups, and veggie burgers. You can also use the stalks of kale in green smoothies or the bones from roasted chicken to make chicken stock.

“Broccoli stalks are great peeled and served right along with steamed broccoli florets,” Henry says. “I also like to blend or finely chop them into sauces to add extra nutrients and fiber.”

  1. Don’t over-serve

You might be tempted to give your family, friends, and guests big portions of food, but those generous servings will likely just end up in the trash. Allow people to serve themselves or give everyone smaller, more manageable portions.

By making these adjustments it’s estimated that Americans can reduce food waste by 15 percent, could help feed 25 million more Americans and prevent millions of tons of food from disposal in landfills.

Are you reasonable with yourself and your goals?

Each year, millions of people set out with new goals at the beginning of the year yet results show that 8% of people achieve their goals. In fact, some goal setting is more harmful than beneficial says Amy Cuddy, a social psychologist at Harvard Business School and author of the book “Presence.” The reason? We do not set reasonable attainable goals and instead of improving our situation in life we create more stress and strain. In “Presence,” she explores how being authentic to our “true selves” is essential for reducing stress that holds us back from our full potential.
Here are 4 recommendations Cuddy makes for setting reasonable goals:

1. Avoid “absolute” goals such as go the gym every day. This is unrealistic and does not allow for the interruptions of life.

2. Frame your goals in the positive. When we address changes in a negative way it can stir up feelings and emotions that can contribute to avoidance. Instead of saying “I want to stop eating junk food, say I choose to eat healthier foods.”

3. State your goals as desired outcomes that are attainable. For example, instead of setting a goal of walking 100 miles, break it down to 10 mile segments, so there will be 10 celebrations.

4. Avoid goals that focus on outside forces. Conditions can change and people will let you down. Set goals that are within your sphere of control and constantly set small goals that will lead to the larger desired outcome.
As a final recommendation, give yourself plenty of time to achieve your goals. We over estimate what we can do in the short run and underestimate what we can do in the long run. Plan for down time to make meaning of the life you are living, to appreciate the ups and downs, and to love the ones that count. If we can help add even an hour or two to your week, it might be the difference in an average and a great 2017!

Make the Holidays about Joy and Peace of Mind!

The Holiday Season is here so make sure YOU are part of the celebration this holiday season and enjoy quality time with your family and friends.

Happy Holidays 2014 from Premier ConciergePlan Ahead and Simplify

The secret to having everything run smoothly this holiday season is to plan ahead and keep things off your agenda that really don’t belong there.

  • Make a list of all the activities that you would like to participate in this holiday season.
  • Include your preparation time such as gift shopping, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry and other preparations if you have guests coming for a few days. Be sure to add travel time if you are going to a party or visiting family out of town.
  • Evaluate your list and decide which tasks and activities are a “must” and which ones can be left off your calendar and then SCHEDULE everything! Are there tasks that you can delegate or outsource? Most importantly, just say “NO” to anything that will not enhance your holiday!

Premier Concierge recommends Yoga for the holidaysGet your Daily Exercise & Quiet Time

We all know that exercise is one of the best stress managers.  However, when the hustle and bustle of the holidays comes along, it is the first thing we skip. Do not compromise on your exercise!  Also, make time for “quite time” such as Yoga, Meditation or just sitting in a quiet place. Make the time for exercise and quiet time and you will breeze through the season with a new energy.  Your family and friends will thank you!

Shop from the Comfort of Your Own Home

The internet has made holiday shopping simple!  It is so nice to get most items off your various lists without fighting the crowds.  By shopping early, you give yourself peace of mind and free up time for all those other little things that make the holidays so magical.

Premier concierge says take time for familyKeep Your Priorities Straight

Remember – – the holidays are not about perfection, they are a time of celebration!  It’s a time of letting go and truly enjoying the ones that make your life the special gift that it is.

The best gift that you can give your family and friends this holiday season is YOU!  So make sure to slow down a little this holiday season and make lasting memories.  Cheers!

Happy Holidays 2016!!
