How to Achieve Your 2019 New Year’s Resolutions!

The most important investments require TIME. Setting and achieving a resolution requires focus, effort, and commitment. Changing old habits and developing new ones will not happen overnight. The following guidelines are meant to help you achieve all of your New Year’s Resolutions:

Focus on one resolution at a time. Make a list of your resolutions, prioritize them, and validate each of them.  Do they make sense to focus on right now?  It is wiser to focus on the right resolution than to start one you are not committed to.

Create a sense of accountability. Designate a friend, mentor, or companion for sharing successes, monitoring progress, and offering support. The benefit of involving others in your goals and plans is instant access to experience, knowledge, and wisdom— it also raises the bar of responsibility.

Research indicates that one of the qualities of those who are successful at making changes is that they have excellent support systems. Many of those who make resolutions never tell others about them. Consciously or subconsciously, that way if they fail no one will view them as a failure.

Communicating your resolution and intentions actually increases your accountability to the behavior. From the very beginning it is important to share your objectives and goals with those around you so that you can enlist their support. Knowing that you are accountable to someone other than yourself will help to keep you on track.

Persist until completed. A resolution achieved is a stunning example of consistency and hard work. If you fall behind schedule or are sidetracked for any reason, refocus! Just DO NOT give up! Do not surrender to temptation, difficulty or temporary failure. Persist until you achieve the goal.

Cultivate personal integrity. Integrity gives you the oxygen needed to cross the finish line of accomplishment. Your commitment determines your level of success. This commitment boils down to two essential tactics: DAILY ACTION AND REVIEW.

I wish you a New Year of health and happiness. Believe in yourself and you will achieve!

Good Luck and Happy 2019!

Goal Setting and Time Management for 2015

Premier Concierge likes 6 sigmaDo you know anyone who is a Six Sigma practitioner?  These people are skilled at establishing processes that generate results.  They see themselves as agents of change and that is exactly what many of us need and want in 2015, change.

As you think of your goals for the coming year, consider using the acronym SMART which stands for Specific, Measurable, Action Oriented, Reasonable, and Timely.  The details look something like this:

Specific – Specific goals are more likely to be achieved than nonspecific goals. Some questions to consider:

  • Who is involved?
  • What do you want to accomplish?
  • When? Establish a time frame.
  • Why? Determine the specific reason, purpose or benefits of achieving a goal.

Measurable – Measuring progress toward a goal helps people stay on track, reach target dates and experience achievement.  Staying on track will result in a continuous improvement cycle that leads to motivation and goal attainment.

Premier Concierge uses SMART goalsAction Oriented – To keep from becoming overwhelmed, goals should be broken down into action steps.  Each step moves a person closer to successful goal achievement.

Reasonable – Avoid setting unreasonable expectations.  Personal and situational factors may influence the ability to reach a goal.  Some personal factors to consider are tiredness, physical well-being and other commitments.

Timely – Define start and end points to the goal.  Maintain commitment to these deadlines. Goals without deadlines or schedules for completion tend to be put aside for the day-to-day crises that invariably arise.

This leads right into TIME management. While TIME cannot be actually managed, we as people can manage what actions we take, how long the actions take, and the results generated with the TIME.  One of the easiest ways I know to check my usage of TIME is to keep a journal for 24 hours.  List what you do in 15 or 30 minute increments.  At the end of the 24 hour period, evaluate what you did and what you would like to change.  What habits would you like to change?

I hope this information is useful as you begin a new year.  If so, please let me know. I enjoy hearing from my readers and clients.  For more details on SMART goals and TIME Management check out the following article: http://www.isixsigma.com/implementation/change-management-implementation/set-smart-goals-better-manage-time/
